Clicked a Bad Link? What to Do Next (Virus Removal in Myrtle Beach)

October 13, 2026•1 min read

It only takes one wrong click on an email or pop-up, and suddenly your computer does not feel like yours anymore. If that just happened to you, here is what to do.

Right away

  1. Do not call any number on a pop-up. Real companies do not lock your screen and ask you to call.
  2. Disconnect from the internet. Turn off Wi-Fi or unplug the network cable to stop anything from spreading or sending data out.
  3. Do not enter passwords on that computer until it is checked.
  4. From a different, safe device, change your important passwords, starting with email and banking. Turn on multi-factor authentication where you can.
  5. Call your bank if you entered card or account details anywhere suspicious.

Signs your computer may be infected

  • New toolbars, pop-ups or a changed homepage
  • The computer is suddenly very slow
  • Friends say they got strange emails from you
  • Programs open or close on their own
  • Your antivirus has been turned off
